Islands of Peace

This old earth where I reside is like a lover
Or a mother father brotherhood or saint
For she hands me every single thing I’ve needed
And she  offers helping hands to my complaint
Yet something I’ve forgotten disrespected her
Though I thought I had a right to think that way
Now I’ve gone and spilled her blood as if I owned her
And this time for my injustice I must pay

There are places in the heart we all retreat to
When the senses which we live by feel deprived
Its an island where time stops so we can freshen
every memory from which pain is contrived

When I come to you in shadow my heart heavy
And my reason will no longer guide my way
Will you open up your arms to wrap me gently
Are you even mindful of my disarray

I have loosened all the sail, the lines, the mooring
For I once again see that our love’s a lease
And I’m throwing out the compass I once trusted
Will you welcome me into your island of peace

In hard times we  need something to remind us
Of the visions we’ve forgotten and misplaced
For they came from some connection oh ! much deeper
Than the task at hand  which we have disgraced
There are islands that exist in every moment
where a quiet voice says not to fear nor  fret
They’re like places we would play when we were children
Learning love could always help to forgive and forget.
